Leadership is learned in the home. Eight principles I try to live by in my marriage.
1. You will get out of it what you put into it. Blame and rationalization are familiar reactions but lead nowhere. They are a symptoms of spiritual blindness. Fight against the thinking, “It’s my spouses fault.”
2. I am in control of my own heart, not my spouses.
3. No one can make you “feel” something. That is our decision.
4. The words “always and never” will not bring health and restoration to a marriage.
5. Put your entire heart and all into your marriage. It’s worth it. This is your first priority after your relationship with the Lord.
6. Honor and humility release God’s power on your marriage. Humility is the simple consent to let God be everything. Surrendering to his purposes.
7. Keep a close guard on the trap of offense.
8. God’s way to a successful marriage focuses on what husbands and wives put into it, not on what they can get out of it. Jesus came to serve.
Remember: If you want to be more like Jesus, get married.
